Four realities first-time founders miss at DIC
Physical office is required
Unlike generalist free zones, DIC requires a leased workspace as registered address. Entry tier is a hot desk or smart office at DIC starting around AED 15,000/year. A pure virtual flexi-desk is not accepted.
Setup timeline
License in 10 to 15 working days. Add 2 to 3 weeks for the residence visa (medical, Emirates ID, stamping). Budget 5 to 7 weeks end-to-end if visa is in scope.
Corporate tax 9% trigger
UAE corporate tax applies at 9% on net profit above AED 375,000. Free-zone "qualifying income" can remain at 0% if substance and DDA-approved activities are respected.

- Dtec (DSO): incubator-style, lower entry ticket, ideal for very early-stage founders.
- DSO at large: broader tech park with research and light-manufacturing options.

Yes, through the GoFreelance programme operated by TECOM Group, which covers DIC, Dubai Media City and Dubai Production City. The freelance permit starts around AED 7,500/year for the permit itself, with the establishment card and visa added on top. It is restricted to a defined list of tech, media and education roles.
Yes. DIC does not accept pure virtual flexi-desks. The minimum entry is a hot desk or smart office on the DIC campus, which still counts as a registered address and includes 1 visa quota. As your team grows, you upgrade to a co-working bundle, then to a private fitted office. The office tier directly drives the visa quota.
